Lake Elsinore, CA
The Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series track in Lake Elsinore, California is known for its huge jumps that launch competitors to incredible heights. Darren Hardesty JR. used those jumps to launch his way to the top spot in both rounds 2 and 3 of the Lucas Oil Regional Series. After testing on Friday, HotSauce was comfortable in his Competitive Metals / Alumi Craft Pro Buggy race car. He qualified 3nd fastest and was looking forward to round 2 on Saturday.
Due to the inversion, HotSauce started Saturday’s race on the outside row in the 4th position. “My Mickey Thompson tires were really hooking up for me,” said Hardesty Jr., “I went into turn one in 4th and came out in 2nd.” He started picking off cars as he made his way to the front. “I passed another car for the lead in mid-air. We bumped tires while flying off the table-top jump.” HotSauce maintained his methodical pace for the remaining laps; taking the checkered flag for the win.
On Sunday, round 3 qualifying went well with HotSauce taking the number one spot. Ironically, after the inversion, he started in the 4th spot again. “My plan was to be patient,” said HotSauce, “I got a good start and began passing cars. I passed 2nd place off the ski jump; taking over the lead. I knew Mike Valentine was coming; he had to start in the back of the pack. (Valentine is the defending Regional Pro Buggy champion). We came into turn three sideways; I grabbed the cutting brake and shot out, still in the lead. I could not be happier with the back to back wins. My Competitive Metals / Alumi Craft is so fast. Off Road Warehouse, Bilstein shocks, Mickey Thompson tires, ReplayXD, SPY, Lucas Oil, Bink Designs and my Dad all make it possible, I couldn’t do it without them.”
HotSauce will be back at Lake Elsinore for round 4 on May 16th. After his dominating performance in rounds 2 and 3, the competition will surely be gunning for him. When he is not attending school, Hotsauce spends his free time working on the car with his Father Darren SR. When round 4 comes, they will be ready to go!
